Women's Soccer Ends Non-Conference With Wire-To-Wire Win Over GW

NEWARK., N.J. — An early score from Kelsey Ramos and a late one from Briana Andreoli helped the NJIT women's soccer team close out its non-conference schedule with a 2-0 victory over the George Washington Revolutionaries Wednesday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

The bookend goals for the Highlanders (5-3-5, 1-1-1 AE) - the quickest and latest scores of the season - and NJIT's shot tally (season-high 27 with a season-best +19 differential, 27-8) punctuated how dominant the Highlander side was throughout the entire inaugural matchup between the team squads.

NJIT's opening salvo came in the fourth minute (3:17) from nearly 50 yards out as Riley Jones perfectly placed a free kick into the six yard box and onto the head of a leaping Ramos.

The second goal in the 90th minute (89:26) was just as impressive, if not more. After forcing a turnover in the offensive third of GW (3-8-3, 0-5-1 A-10), Jones played the ball ahead to Bailey Chant, who slipped past her defender two times before sending a through ball up to Andreoli for a couple of touches and a right side, right foot shot to the far left post.

Despite NJIT's strong play overall, GW had its moments and one prime opportunity to equalize before Andreoli's goal sealed the deal. In the 82nd minute, the Revolutionaries played a left side cross into the box and headed it onto the right back post. However, the ball was kept out the goal by said back post and a front of goal clearance by captain Emma Bitar.

OTHER NOTES
  • Merle Hueser's opening goal against Saint Peter's on August 20 (7:52) was the previous holder for quickest goal of the season, while Andreoli's equalizer against La Salle on September 7 (86:46) was the latest goal of the year before tonight.
  • The fastest goal all-time in NJIT program history came on October 11, 2012 against Delaware State - a game-winning strike by alumnae Kylie Jones 1:06 seconds into the contest. The latest regulation goal in Highlander lore came two years later on October 27, 2013 at Howard - with 17 seconds remaining (89:43).
  • Andreoli's goal was her team-leading fourth of the campaign, making her the first Highlander to net at least four goals in a season since former Highlander Christine Conaghy in 2021.
  • Samantha Constantine and Mojisola Ayodele split another shutout this year - their third combined clean sheet of the year (Mount St. Mary's, Saint Peter's).
NEXT UP
NJIT will begin the home stretch of America East play and honor its seniors on Sunday, October 8 at 1 p.m. against Maine.
