Swimming and Diving Leads After First Day of NJIT Invitational

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT men's swimming and diving ended the first day of its NJIT Invitational in first place after a strong collective showing Friday evening at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center Natatorium.

On the men's side, the Highlanders end Day 1 with a 92.5 lead over second place UMass (379-286.5), while LIU logged 206.5 points and Saint Peter's took fourth with 87 points.

UMass' women ended the opening day atop the leaderboard with 383 ponts, followed by Vermont (375 pts), and LIU (170)

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

NJIT was completely dominant on Friday: of the five races put on (200 Medley Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 200 Free Relay), NJIT won them all.
In three of the five, NJIT nabbed two of the top three finishes
200 Medley Relay: Aidan Blackmon/Matthew Bevan/Ian Horstkamp-Vinekar, Francois Malherbe - 1:32.71
500 Free: Laith Sabbah - 4:40.51
200 IM: Aidan Blackmon - 1:54.87
50 Free: Francois Malherbe - 20.32
200 Free Relay: Francois Malherbe/Laith Sabbah/Aidan Blackmon/Tanish Chhabra - 1:24.23

NEXT UP
The second and final day of the NJIT Invitational will take place tomorrow (October 14). There will be two sessions: one starting at 10 a.m. and one beginning at 1:30 p.m.
