Taibl's Header Pushes Women's Soccer Past Bryant, 1-0

NEWARK, N.J. — A successful second half set piece proved to be the difference for the NJIT women's soccer team in its 1-0 shutout victory over the Bryant Bulldogs Thursday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

The Highlanders (6-4-5, 2-2-1 AE) controlled the overall chance creation (20-9 on shots, 7-5 shots on goal, 5-0 corner kicks) but still found themselves even at halftime with the visiting Bulldogs (6-4-3, 2-2-2 AE) and the conference's top goalkeeper, Kathryn McNeil (league leading 0.59 GAA and .896 save percentage entering Thursday).

However, being the resilient group they are, NJIT would find a way to break through.

After forcing a corner kick on the left side in the 54th minute, Bailey Chant took the kick and found a leaping Madison Taibl at the top of the six yard box. Taibl's header took a high, looping arc and sailed over McNeil, who could only watch as the ball found the back of the net and the Highlanders cheered around the fifth year defender.

Bryant would take three more chances after falling behind but only one stayed on goal (65') and that chance was stopped by Samantha Constantine.

OTHER NOTES

With NJIT bouncing back from Sunday's loss against Maine, there have now been 21 games (regular season and playoffs) since the Highlanders last lost a second straight match.
Constantine made five saves in 90 minutes and earned her third solo shutout of the campaign.
Taibl is making the most of her fifth year. In 42 games prior to 2023, she did not record a point. In 13 matches this year, she has seven (3 G, 1 A).
After dropping two of their first three all-time meetings, NJIT has now defeated Bryant twice in a row.

NJIT will hit the road for the first of its final two road games on Sunday October 15 against New Hampshire. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
