COMPLETE RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA - Six members of the NJIT men's tennis team took part in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, which were hosted by Penn over the weekend.
The Highlanders sent three pairs of doubles teams to the event and had five players competing in singles as
Pablo Perez Ramos had already qualified for the upcoming ITA Super Regional singles tournament.
NJIT's highlights included he doubles tandem of Perez Ramos and
German Lopez Andujar, who one a pair of matches, but were knocked out in the quarterfinal round, one match shy of qualifying for the ITA Super Regional.
Sophomore
Wil Jenkins had similar fate in singles action as he came up just one win short of advancing to the ITA Super Regional. Jenkins won his first three matches before bowing out in the Round of 16.
"We had a good weekend of competition for most of the guys who competed this week," said Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "Pablo and German in doubles and Wil in singles got to the final round of the tournament, but fell short. The good news is we are competing at a high level, our team culture is very healthy and we still have some more tournaments this fall to keep getting better."
Also competing for NJIT were
Nejc Skorjanc,
Oscar Callo von Platen, and
Pavel Petrov.
Perez Ramos will represent NJIT at the upcoming ITA Super Regionals, which will be hosted by Princeton from Friday, Nov. 20 through Monday, Nov. 23.
"I am looking forward to the super regional in a few weeks where Pablo will get a chance to play the best in our region," concluded Matteucci.
