NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's hockey team returned to action in the Spring 2023 portion of the 2022-2023 season facing off against the reigning Colonial Cup Champions Penn Quakers at home. The Quakers won in convincing fashion by the score of 9-1. The Highlanders record is now 1-7 in ACHA games.
Penn scored 5 goals in the first period to jump out to a big lead. Senior John Kulpanowski got his 1st goal as a Highlander at 8:25 to make it 5-1. Zak Otun and Matt Francescutto got the helpers on the goal. The Quakers would control the game the rest of the way scoring two goals in both the 2nd and 3rd periods.
Freshmen Eyakem Fridawek and John Pinkham made their Highlander debuts, we welcome them to the team. Junior goaltender Sean Caswell also made his 1st appearance as a Highlander as well. He made 51 saves in a strong effort.
The Highlanders return to action tonight in a rubber match against the Stevens Ducks at 8:30 at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House.Â
