Highlander Highlights
* Wednesday's game is the 16th of the 2022-23 season -- which marks NJIT's 17th participating in Division I, third as a member of the America East and sixth in the Wellness & Events Center (WEC).
* Four players scored at least 15 points in Sunday's OT win at Maine led by Miles Coleman's 22 point performance. Coleman scored four points late in regulation to help NJIT come back from a six-point deficit with 2:50 to play and five more in overtime. The senior earned America East Player of the Week honors for his big day.
* Miles Coleman (at Sacred Heart) and Adam Hess (at South Florida) each have games where they drained seven three-pointers, tying Bryant's Doug Edert for the most this season by an America East player.
* The 85 points at Sacred Heart were the most by an NJIT team in regulation since it scored 90 vs. Wagner on Nov. 16, 2019. The Highlanders scored 91 in an overtime win this season at Maine and 90 last season in a 2OT W at Lafayette.
* Souleymane Diakite played in his 100th career game at Army West Point. He and and Kjell de Graaf are both in their fifth seasons with the Highlanders. Da'mir Faison is the next most-tenured Highlander as he is in his fourth season with the program. Miles Coleman played in his 50th career game in an NJIT uniform against Saint Elizabeth.
* Six of NJIT's 14 players have completed their undergraduate degrees and are working towards their Master's. Souleymane Diakite and Kjell de Graaf graduated from NJIT last May, while Justin Anderson (Bloomsburg), Adam Hess (E. New Mexico St.), Kevin Osawe (Arkansas-Little Rock), and Raheim Sullivan (Marist) come to NJIT from other institutions.
* All six meetings between Binghamton and NJIT have been won by the visiting team.
Last Time Out: NJIT 91, Maine 83 (OT) | Sun. 1/8 in Orono, ME
The NJIT men's basketball team won a wild, back-and-forth affair over Maine on Sunday in America East action, defeating the hosts 91-83 in overtime at The Pit inside Memorial Gymnasium to earn even their conference record at 1-1 on the season.
One week after squandering a late lead, this time the Highlanders came from behind late, going on a 10-1 run to take a 77-74 advantage with 23 seconds on the clock. The 10-1 run was highlighted by a steal from Hess, which he out-letted to Coleman, who found Gray on the break for an easy transition layup to tie the game. Maine answered, however, with a game-tying three-pointer with just under 10 seconds left and late game-winning attempt from NJIT rimmed out to send the game to overtime, the Highlanders' first of the season.
Miles Coleman opened overtime with a deep three-point to give the Highlanders an 80-77 lead and Adam Hess put the visitors in front by two answering a pair of Black Bears' basket with a 1-for-2 effort of his own from the line. Maine tied the game for the eighth, and final, time on a dunk with 2:13 left on the clock. Sullivan got to the basket and converted a tough layup on the ensuing position to put NJIT in front, this time for good. After a defensive stop, Coleman was fouled taking a three-pointer on the other end of the floor and made 2-of-3 to make the margin four with exactly 1:00 to play.
The Highlanders hit six of their eight foul shots in the final minute to preserve the win.
NJIT vs...Binghamton
NJIT and Binghamton will meet for the seventh time on Wednesday, with the Bearcats carrying a 4-2 advantage into the game. As conference opponents, NJIT is 1-3 against Binghamton, as it dropped both games in 2020-21 and the teams split last season. All six meetings have been won by the visiting team. .
