Post-Match Interview with NJIT's Adriana Goetz-Morales
NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team won its second-straight match on Friday evening, defeating Hartford to improve to 3-1 at the Wellness and Events Center this season.
After needing five sets to defeat Iona on Wednesday, the Highlanders dominated from start to finish against Hartford to win in three sets and give them their first back-to-back wins since 2018.
NJIT had a tremendous first set to set the tone, hitting an impressive .609 to earn a 25-12 victory and go ahead 1-0. The Highlanders followed it up with more of the same, winning set by an identical 25-12 score and clinching the match with a 25-11 victory in set three..
Asher Vallone led NJIT with 11 kills, while
Elley Torres finished with nine on just 11 swings (.818 hitting percentage) and
Adriana Goetz-Morales added seven on 11 attacks (.545 hitting percentage).
Juliana Impaglia dished out 34 assists in the three-set match to help set the offense up all evening. Impaglia and
Taylor West also contributed to the attacking game with three kills on three attempts each.
Doga Emil finished with a team-high 12 digs and
Courtney Branch and
Ines Varela each had four blocks to lead the NJIT defense as it out-blocked Hartford eight to three.
The Highlanders will look to go on their first three-game winning streak since 2017 when they take on Manhattan on the road on Tuesday. First serve is slated for 7pm in Riverdale, NY.
