BROOKLYN - The NJIT women's volleyball team traveled to St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday and fell to the host Terriers 3-0 in straight sets.
SFC took the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores before wrapping up the match with a much closer 25-22 third-set victory.
Three different Highlanders -
Adriana Goetz-Morales,
Ines Varela, and
Elley Torres - each led the NJIT offense with seven kills, while
Maddie Dennis and
Juliana Impaglia shared the setting duties, finishing with 15 and 13 assists, respectively as the squad hit .194 on the evening.
Defensively, NJIT out-blocked the Terriers 6-4 with Varela's five blocks (one solo) leading the way.
The Highlanders will play three matches at the Seton Hall Classic in South Orange this weekend, beginning the slate on Friday at 4:30pm vs. Dartmouth. NJIT will conclude play at Seton Hall on Saturday with a 10am match vs. Central Connecticut State and a 7pm tilt against the hos Pirates.
