NEW ORLEANS - The NJIT men's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Friday, falling 4-1 to Nicholls in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament.
The 2022 tournament marks the first for NJIT as a member of the Southland Conference. The Highlanders were the four seed, while Nicholls was seeded fifth.
NJIT led 1-0 early thanks to earning the doubles point.
Amine El Kholti and
Samuel Townes one by a 6-3 decision at first doubles, while
Abdullah Fouad and
Daniel Sabogal won 6-1 at second doubles. NJIT's third doubles tandem of
Oscar Callo von Platen and
Josh Smith led 5-2, but the match went unfinished as the Highlanders already clinched the doubles point.Â
Nicholls took four singles matches, however, to clinch the match and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
NJIT concludes its season with a 9-9 record in Head Coach
Marco Matteucci's first year as the Highlanders' Head Coach.
