Men’s Volleyball Opens 2022 EIVA Tournament on Wednesday; No. 3 NJIT Will Face No. 6 George Mason at 4:30pm

NEWARK, NJ–No. 3 NJIT will make its second straight EIVA Conference Tournament appearance on Wednesday, April 20 against No. 6 George Mason.

Game Information
Game time is slated for 4:30pm on Wednesday, April 20. The matches will be streamed live on Big Ten Plus Network (free of charge) and in-game statistics are available on www.GoPSUSports.com. A subscription to Big Ten Plus Network will not be needed to watch the live stream.

2022 EIVA Tournament Information
The EIVA Championship Tournament will be held April 20-23 at Rec Hall on Penn State's University Park Campus.

The winner of this week's tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA National Collegiate Championship. 

All-Time Series vs. George Mason
George Mason leads the all-time series, 58-12.

The two teams split the regular season series, 1-1, with NJIT earning a 3-0 win in Newark on February 11 and George Mason picking up a 3-1 victory on March 25.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT will make its second straight EIVA Conference postseason tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 10-6 league mark.  

NJIT's 15 overall wins is the most wins since the 2007 season when the Highlanders reached 19.  The Highlanders 11-2 mark at home inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center is tied for the most wins since the building opened in 2017-18 with the men's basketball team (11; 2018-19).

As a team, the Highlanders rank sixth in blocks per set (2.478) and fourteenth in assists per set (11.66) and kills per set (12.33).  

Individually, junior middle blocker Martin de Chavarria ranks fourth in the nation in blocks per set (1.238).

Scouting the Patriots
George Mason enters the EIVA Tournament as the No. 6 seed, concluding the season with a 7-9 mark in the EIVA and standing at 13-14 overall.

The Patriots dropped its previous three matches at Princeton (L, 0-3), vs. Harvard (L, 2-3) and vs. Harvard (L, 0-3).
