Box Score HEMPSTEAD, NY - The NJIT men's tennis team defeated host Hofstra 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Hofstra Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders conclude the regular season with a 9-8 record, while the Pride fell to 5-8.
"This was a great way to finish the regular season," said first-year Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "We came together and really fought for this one."
Hofstra got out to a 1-0 lead clinching the doubles point with victories at first and third doubles.
The Highlanders won the match thanks to taking four out of six singles matches, with the clinching point coming in three sets at sixth singles by
Ammar Fekry. In addition to Fekry,
Abdullah Fouad (second singles),
Oscar Callo von Platen (fourth singles), and
Ashwin Kanetkar (fifth singles) all earned wins on Friday. All three won in straight sets.
"This is what college tennis is all about," explained Matteucci. "Being part of challenging moments and believing in yourself until the end!"
The Highlanders return to action next weekend at the Southland Conference Tournament in New Orleans. The complete bracket will be announced in the coming days.
"This provides great momentum to win outdoors going into next weekend's conference championship," concluded Matteucci.
