BURLINGTON, VT - The NJIT men's basketball team saw its 2021-22 season come to an end on Sunday, falling 98-59 at top-seeded Vermont in the America East Quarterfinals at Patrick Gymnasium.
America East Player of the Year Ryan Davis opened up the scoring to put the Catamounts ahead 2-0 early before Da'Mir Faison tied the game up 11 seconds later for the Highlanders.
Ben Shungu put Vermont back ahead less than a minute later and Vermont held their lead for the remaining 38 minutes of the game.Â
The Catamounts led 48-27 at halftime and increased their lead to as many as 43 in the second half before ultimately winning by the 39-point margin.Â
NJIT shot 46% in the loss, including 43.8% from three-point range, but Vermont shot even better, going 59.7% from the floor and 44.8% from deep.
Miles Coleman was the game's high scorer, recording 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Coleman was joined in double figures by
Matt Faw, who finished with 11 points.
Shunghu scored 15 points to lead a balanced Catamount's scoring attack as seven different players scored at least eight points for the hosts.Â
The Highlanders conclude the season with an 11-18 record, while Vermont is now 26-5 and will host sixth-seeded Binghamton on Wednesday evening in the America East semifinals.Â
