SOUTH BEND, IN–Junior Kevin Katayama finished day one at the 2022 NCAA Men's Fencing Championships on Saturday at the Castellan Family Fencing Center hosted by Notre Dame.
Katayama, from Oakhurst, NJ, making his first trip to the NCAA Championships, picked up three victories out of 15 bouts.
The USFCA Mid-Atlantic/South Region honorable mention sits in 20th place through the first three rounds in the men's foil competition.
The final two rounds of the men's round-robin play will begin Sunday morning. After the two rounds are completed, the top-four finishers will advance to the semifinals starting at 1:30 p.m.
