PHILADELPHIA, PA - The NJIT men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by host Drexel on Saturday afternoon at the Drexel Tennis Bubble.
The Highlanders are now 1-1 on the young season, while the Dragons remain undefeated through three matches.
"Not the result we wanted, but the fight, the passion, and the desire were all there today," said Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "Kudos to our guys for being loud and engaged."
Amine El Kholti picked up the Highlanders' lone point on Saturday, earning a three-set victory at third singles (1-6, 6-3, 7-6) over Drexel's Xandy Hammitt.
El Khollti also won his doubles match, teaming up with
Oscar Callo Von Platen for a 6-4 victory, but Drexel took the other two doubles matches to go ahead 1-0 early.
"We need to come home and work on the details tactically and, most importantly, mentally," added Matteucci. "I'm looking forward to the journey ahead of us."
The Highlanders return to action next Saturday when they travel to West Point, NY, to take on Army West Point.
