NEWARK, NJ– The NJIT men's soccer team was defeated for the first time in America East play this season as visiting New Hampshire scored a late goal to break a scoreless tie and held off the Highlanders to preserve the 1-0 win on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
The victory was the Wildcat's fifth-straight win and the three-time defending America East Conference Regular Season Champions improved to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
NJIT saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to an end with the loss and the Highlanders are now 3-4-4 in 2022 and 0-1-2 in America East action.
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the 14th minute, a long serve by Alejandro Rabell to the back of the box, finding co-captain Goncalo Franco. Franco's header sailed just wide of the frame.

NJIT had the best scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute on Rabell's tough angle attempt, staying wide.

Rabell registered the Highlanders first shot on goal in the 42nd minute save to the bottom left of the goal by New Hampshire Jassem Koleiat.

In the 51st minute, Yannick Bright's shot went high and right, trying to catch the NJIT Highlander keeper out of goal.

Ten minutes later, New Hampshire's Tola Showunmi close shot inside the box to the bottom right was saved by NJIT's Reisgys.

Reisgys continued to keep the Wildcats off the board in the 70th minute with a diving save.

New Hampshire broke the ice in the 77th minute on a goal by Gustavo Rodriguez assisted by Johann Knebel.

NJIT was able to get off two more shots in the final 13 minutes of action, but neither was on target as the Wildcats preserved the victory.
NOTEWORTHY

Prior to the New Hampshire goal in the second half, NJIT set a new Division I program record scoreless streak with a time of 407:25. NJIT entered Saturday's match unbeaten in the last four, registering three ties (Rider, UMass Lowell, Binghamton) and a victory against Sacred Heart).
