ALBANY, NY - The NJIT women's volleyball team opened up the America East Conference portion of its schedule on Sunday and was defeated by host UAlbany in straight sets at Robinson Gymnasium on the campus of Russell Sage College.
The Great Danes took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 to put an end to the Highlanders' three-match winning streak.
NJIT was led by
Adriana Goetz-Morales, who finished with 10 kills to go along with just two errors on 19 swings for a .421 hitting percentage.
Juliana Impaglia handled the setting duties and dished out 25 assists in the three-set match, while
Ines Varela and
Elley Torres each factored in on three blocks to lead the NJIT defense as it out-blocked UAlbany 6-3 on Sunday.
Varela also contributed to the service game with a career-high four aces.
The Highlanders will look to get back in the win column next weekend when they host a pair of America East matches at the Wellness, where they are 3-1 this season. NJIT will play New Hampshire on Friday on 7:30 and wrap up the weekend with a Sunday matinee against Binghamton at 1pm.
