PHILADELPHIA - The NJIT men's tennis team was back on the court this weekend, competing in the annual ITA Northeast Regionals, which were hosted by the University of Pennsylvaia from Friday until Monday.
Freshman
Nejc Skorjanc highlighted the weekend for the Highlanders, winning three singles matches before falling in three sets (3-6, 6-0, 6-3) to Yale's Aidan Reilly with a berth to the upcoming ITA Super Regionals on the line.
*Nejc had a great tournament getting to the final round and played at a very high quality level all weekend long," said Head Coach Marco Matteucii. "It's great to keep seeing the success we are having so far.
Four other Highlanders -
Amine El Kholti,
Pablo Perez Ramos,
Pavel Petrov, and
Josh Smith - joined Skorjanc in singles play. Smith won two matches at the event o advance to the round of 32, while El Kholti and Perez Ramos each won one match.
The Highlanders also sent three doubles pairs to the event as
Samuel Townes joined the aforementioned five players to compete in the doubles draw. El Kolhti and Perez Ramos paired to win two matches, while Smith and Skorjanc won one.
"We will now take a much needed break from competition for a few weekend and look to continue getting better," concluded Matteucci.
NJIT will be back in action later this month at the Yale Invitiational, which will take place from Friday-Sunday, October 28-30 in New Haven, CT.
