HACKENSACK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team got career-high performances from several players including junior
Adriana Goetz-Morales and sophomore
Elley Torres, but still fell just short as the squad was defeated in five sets on Tuesday evening at the Rothman Center.
Goetz-Morales registered 18 kills and Torres tallied 14, however the Knights were able to overcome the career-high performances and take the match 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12.
After FDU (4-6) took the opening set comfortably, the final four sets were much tighter. The Highlanders (1-8) actually held an 11-9 lead in the final frame, but the Knights scored four-straight points and six of the final seven to clinch the victory and avenge a five-set loss to NJIT the last time the teams met in 2019.
Goetz-Morales and Torres weren't the only Highlanders to put up the best numbers of their careers as junior setter
Juliana Impaglia established a new career-best with 43 assists in the match.
Torres' 19 digs were also a career-high and solidified her third-career double-double.
The Highlanders once again had a strong game defensively at the net, with
Ines Varela leading the way with four block assists.
NJIT returns to action this weekend when it heads to Storrs, CT, for three matches at the Dog Pound Challenge, hosted by UConn. The Highlanders will open up play on Friday at 4pm vs. Yale.
