Men’s Volleyball Adds Six for 2022 Season


NEWARK, NJ--Danny Goncalves, the 2021 EIVA Coach of the Year, announced the addition of six student-athletes who will compete for the Highlanders in 2022.  

The talented recruiting class is composed of four outside hitters--Antonio Feliciano, Alessandro Negri, Josh Gregg and Christian Trevino, setter Gil Zyndorf and middle blocker Anton Frank, a transfer from Loyola.

Antonio Feliciano | Outside Hitter | San Juan, Puerto Rico | Colegio San Ignacio HS
Feliciano joins the Highlanders from San Juan, Puerto Rico after attending Colegio San Ignacio.

The 6-foot-4 outside hitter guided the San Juan Volleyball Club to the BJNC bronze medal and All-American team.

Attending Colegio San Ignacio, Feliciano helped capture three national championships during his career.

Feliciano competed at the Junior Varsity Champions of Copa Nacional and was named tournament MVP, PRHSSA League Champions, Copa Nuevo Dia National Champions and tournament MVP and Buzzer Beater National Championship and MVP.

He intends to major in industrial engineering at NJIT in the Fall 2021.

Alessandro Negri | Outside Hitter | Reggio Emilia, Italy | I.I.S. Fermo Corni HS
Negri, who hails from Reggio Emilia, attended I.I.S. Fermo Corni High School. 

He guided the team to four consecutive conference championships of Emilia Romagna (2018-21).  The team placed first in the Winter Cup Tournament (2018-19) and KVL Tournament (2018-19 and 2019-20).  A member of the Italian National team, Negri was named to the Cornacchia All-Tournament team.

Negri intends to major in biology at NJIT in the Fall 2021.

Josh Gregg | Outside Hitter | Henrietta, NY | Rush Henrietta HS | Club: Hot Shots Juniors
Gregg, the 2021 Monroe County Player of the Year, attended Rush Henrietta High School.  

The 6-foot-5 outside hitter is a three-time All-Monroe County and two-time All-Greater Rochester first-team selectee.

Gregg played club for Hot Shots Juniors, guiding the team to two gold medals in the Can-Am Championship (2019, 2020), gold medal at the St. Louis and East Coast Championships (2019), silver medal at the Boy's Junior National Championships (2019) while earning 2019 USA Volleyball Boys Select A1 team.

A three-time Scholar Athlete (2019, 2020, 2021), Gregg intends to major in mechanical engineering at NJIT in the Fall 2021.

Gil Zyndorf | Setter | Fair Lawn, NJ | Fair Lawn HS | Club: Warren Sixpack 
Zyndorf, a four-year starter at Fair Lawn High School, is a three-time All-Conference and First-Team All-North honoree.

The 5-foot-11 setter led New Jersey in assists as a sophomore, earning Second-Team All-State recognition.   He helped guide Fair Lawn High School to two Sectional Championships, Final Four appearances and County and League Champions.  Fair Lawn made an appearance in the NJ State Finals and Super Six. Zyndorf played club for Warren Sixpack and qualified for Nationals four times.

An honor roll student as a junior and senior, Zyndorf intends to major in business at NJIT in the Fall 2021.

Zyndorf's brother (Oren) a four-year member of the NJIT men's volleyball team (2011-15), went on to play four years of professional volleyball in Israel, capturing two cups and championships with three appearances in the finals.

Christian Trevino | Outside Hitter | Rahway, NJ | St. Joseph (Metuchen) | Club: Warren Sixpack
Trevino will follow in his parents and sisters footsteps and attend NJIT after a four-year volleyball career at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ.  

The 6-foot-3 outside hitter earned All-Conference honors and played club for Warren Sixpack.

Trevino's father (Pedro) is the head women's volleyball coach, mother (Kathleen) swam and played soccer at NJIT and sister (CJ) will be a junior on the NJIT women's volleyball team in 2021.

He intends to major in civil engineering at NJIT in the Fall 2021.

Anton Frank | Middle Blocker | Berlin, Germany | Schul-und Leistungssportzentrum
Frank, a transfer from Loyola-Chicago, joins the Highlanders from Germany where he attended Schul-und Leistungssportzentrum. 

The 6-foot-9 middle blocker helped Germany to the title at the United World Games in 2017, a second-place showing at the World School Championships in 2018 and earned Best Blocker at the Berlin Championships U18 in 2018.  He guided his squad to a third-place finish at the U20 German Championships in 2018 and a runner-up at the U18 German Championships in 2017.

Frank intends to major in science, technology and society.
