2021 USMC-AVCA Team Academic Awards
LEXINGTON, KY - The NJIT men's volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with one of its annual AVCA Team Academic Awards for the 2020-21 academic year.
Additionally, the Highlanders were named to the Team Academic Honor Roll list, representing the highest scholarly achievement for the top 20 percent of team GPAs from each division.
NJIT boosted a 3.66 cumulative GPA, which included two student-athletes -- AJ Jones and Joe Kennedy posting a 4.0 GPA, 14 players above a 3.0 GPA and 10 above a 3.5 GPA.
Earlier this season, fourteen players were recognized to the 2021 EIVA All-Academic team.
To be eligible for the AVCA Team Academic Award - which was created in 1992-93 - a program had to maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
In total, the AVCA honored a record 1,275 teams among all collegiate and high school levels for men and women, breaking last year's all-time record of 1,126.
