Newark, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by visiting Hofstra on Wednesday at Branch Brook Park.
The Highlanders are now 6-3 on the season, while the Pride improved their record to 3-2.
In doubles action,
Josh Smith and
Samuel Townes were able to rally for a victory at the #1 spot, and
Abdullah Fouad and
Amine El Kholti did the same at the #2 position to earn the first point of the match.Â
"We were behind in all three doubles matches, but battled back to win at one and two to get the doubles point," said Head Coach
Ira Miller
The Highlanders were unable to take that momentum into singles play, however, as the Pride won five of six to take the match 5-2.
Ammar Fekry was the only NJIT player to early a victory at singles, doing so in straight sets at the #6 position.Â
"Ammar played well to get us the second point, but Hofstra was too strong in the rest of the singles," explained Miller.Â
The Highlanders return to action on Friday when they host Sacred Heart back at Branch Brook Park. First serve is slated for 2:30pm.
