Leigh, Raia Lead Track and Field At Metropolitan Championships

NEW YORK --- Over the weekend, the NJIT men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York.

On the men's side, the Highlanders captured victories in six events, with freshman Jacob Leigh earning a win each on the track and the field. Leigh paced the field in the 100 meters with an NJIT outdoor freshman record time of 10.76 while his win in the high jump (1.93m / 6-4.00) tied the school outdoor mark and set a new freshman record.

The women's team was led by senior Cassandra Raia, who claimed victory in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:50.37, only .20 seconds off of the current Highlander school benchmark.
