NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team played at home for the first time since November, 2019, on Sunday, and fell in a pair of America East matches to Stony Brook at the Wellness and Events Center.
Stony Brook improved to 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in America East action, while the Highlanders are still searching for their first win this spring through five matches, including four conference matches.
The Seawolves won the first match 25-10, 25-15, 25-19, before taking the second match 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 to clinch he sweep.
In the opening match,
Katelyn Bliesner and
Elley Torres each recorded five kills for NJIT, while
Courtney Branch added four more in seven attacks, finishing the match with a .429 hitting percentage.
Kyla Lannert's nine kills were a team-best, while the Highlanders totaled six blocks at the net, with
Emma Godwin and Bliesner each contributing a pair of block assists.
In match two,
Udo Nwosu finished with a team-high 10 kills, as
Adriana Goetz-Morales and Torres each added eight. Lannert once again led the squad in digs with 14 for the Highlanders, who blocked four shots as a team.
Lannert handled the setting duties for the Highlanders in both matches, dishing out 16 in the opener and 30 more in the second match.
NJIT returns to action on Sunday, March 14, when it travels to Hartford for two more America East matches.
