NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated by visiting UMBC in four sets in America East action on Monday morning at the Wellness and Events Center.
The teams traded the first two sets as UMBC (8-2, 7-2 America East) won the opener 25-16 before NJIT (1-9, 1-8 America East) rallied to win the second 25-22 and even the match 1-1. The Retrievers bounced back to take the third set 25-9, before clinching the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth frame.

Emma Godwin led the Highlanders offensively with nine kills, while sophomore
Courtney Branch recorded seven of her own with a team-best .333 hitting percentage.

Kyla Lannert split the setting duties for NJIT, finishing with 13 and 10, respectively, as Lannert also finished with double-digit digs (12), second only to freshman
Kaitlyn Arias (19).
Four Highlanders totaled at least four block assists, including freshman
Elley Torres, who led the way with five.
NJIT will look for the season sweep of Binghamton later Monday when they wrap up their home slate against the Bearcats at 7pm in the WEC.
