NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team is now 4-0 on the season after a third-straight 5-2 victory, this time over local-rival Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon at the Naimoli Tennis Center.
The victory was also the eighth in a row over FDU for the Highlanders. The Knights are now 1-2 on the season.
"It was another great hard fought victory for our team," said Head Coach
Ira Miller.
Josh Smith and
Samuel Townes won at #1 doubles and
Abdullah Fouad and
Amine El Kholti were victorious at #2 position to give NJIT the first point of the afternoon.
In singles action, the Highlanders got wins from Fouad (#1), El Kholti (#3), Townes (#4), and the team's lone freshman
Ashwin Kanetkar (#5).
Townes and Kanetkar are now both 4-0 in singles play.
"Samuel and Ashwin have been so solid in singles," explained Milled."Abdullah battled from start to finish to clinch for us and Amine fought really hard after being down a set to cruise to victory.
NJIT will continue its busy stretch this weekend on Saturday and Sunday when they host Wagner and travel to Army West Point, respectively.Â
"A great team effort is always very satisfying," concluded Miller.
