MADISON, NJ--The NJIT women's fencing team picked up a pair wins over the Drew, combining for a pair of 24-3 victories, while the NJIT men split with Drew, edging the Rangers in the first round, 14-13, while Drew prevailed in the second round, 14-13, Sunday afternoon to conclude the regular season.
Six different Highlander women -- Annalena Shigihara (foil), Marina Arrese (foil), Dominika Pawlowska (epee), Paula Zugasti (epee), Dorottya Berczy (saber) and Amanda Soliman (saber) each earned 6-0 victories on their respective strips.
The foil and epee duos notched 12-0 records while on the saber strip the trio of Berczy, Soliman and Janine Bacchus-Joseph recorded a 16-2 mark.
Senior Thomas Manley led the NJIT men, combining for a 6-0 record in the foil competition. Sophomore Cristian Candescu finished with four wins as the foil squad recorded a 12-6 record.
Junior Justin Petway added three wins on the saber strip.
The NCAA men's and women's fencing committee will announce the field of competitors next week who will compete in the 2021 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships held at Penn State.
