NEWARK, NJ--Stony Brook scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of action and held on for the 2-0 road victory at NJIT Friday evening in men's soccer America East Conference action at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Stony Brook, which remains unbeaten in America East play, improves to 1-0-1 in the league and 1-2-1 overall while the Highlanders move to 1-1-0 in the America East and 1-1-1 overall.  NJIT, which played on Tuesday evening, picked up its first America East Conference program victory at UMBC.

The pair of goals for the visiting Seawolves were scored by Gabriel Fernandes and Aki Solvason while Edmond Kaiser produced his second straight shutout in goal.

Stony Brook struck first in the sixth minute on a header by Fernandes assisted by Jack Valderrabano off a corner kick.  The goal for Fernandes was his first of the season.

The Seawolves scored three minutes later to go up 2-0 on a goal by Solvason assisted by Sean Towey.  The play started on a corner kick with the first shot, coming off the foot of Towey, which hit the post.  With a scramble in front of the net, Solvason collected the ball and tucked away the second goal of the game.  Towey was credited with the assist.

NJIT's Jose Escandon, the 2018 NJ.com Boys Soccer Player of the Year, blasted a shot, hitting the right post in the 11th minute of play.

In the 51st minute, NJIT recorded their first shot on goal of the match by Thomas Radon in his season debut.

A dangerous scoring opportunity for NJIT in the 68th minute came on a strike by Regsan Watkins, bending just wide of the right post.   Another attempt by Wakins in the 73rd minute, a blast from the left side punched out over the bar by the 6-foot-4 Stony Brook keeper.

NJIT's Alejandro Rabell crossed a pass across the box to Zach Halma on the back post, who nearly touched the ball in the net in the 77th minute.

The overall shots were even at 16-16 while Stony Brook held a 7-3 advantage in shot on goal.  NJIT's Watkins and Jorge led the Highlanders with four shots each followed by Radon with three.
