NEWARK, NJ--Senior Alvaro Gimeno has been selected EIVA Offensive Player of the Week after a 1-1 week, which included a 3-0 sweep at No. 11 Penn State the league office announced on Monday.
For the weekend, Gimeno combined for 31 kills (4.43kps) and .644 hitting percentage in a weekend split with No. 11 Penn State.
In the Highlanders 3-0 win on Sunday, Gimeno posted a match-best 16 kills, combined for a .652 hitting percentage to go along with four digs and one block solo. The win for the Highlanders was the first time since 1998 NJIT defeated Penn State.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-9 outside hitter combined for 15 kills on 22 attempts with just one error for a .636 hitting percentage.
Gimeno ranks first in the EIVA in kills per set (3.95), second in hitting percentage (.414) and third in total kills (79).
Earlier today, Gimeno was named National Attacker of the Week announced by OffTheBlock.
NJIT will close out a four-game road trip next weekend when the Highlanders visit Charleston (WV) on February 19-20. Saturday's match is slated for 7pm with Sunday's contest beginning at 5pm.
