MADISON, NJ--The NJIT men's fencing team opened MACFA Conference action with a 6-0 record, paced by Pedro D'Avila who recorded a 16-0 record in sabre competition on Sunday at the MACFA A vs. B meet hosted by Drew University.
The NJIT men picked up wins against: Hunter, Rowan, Rutgers, Lafayette, Cornell and host Drew.
In addition to D'Avila, who led the sabre squad with a winning percentage of 100% (16-0), Christopher Cortez combined for a 12-4 record for a winning percentage of 75%. The sbre squad combined for a 37-11 overall mark.
Guido Liwski led the epee squad with a 10-3 record (77% winning percentage) followed by Rourke Hillyer who went 7-1 (88% winning percentage).
In foil competition, Cristian Candescu led the squad with a 15-2 mark (88% winning percentage) and Kevin Katayama with a 14-1 mark (93% winning percentage). Freshman Josh Schaefer posted a 10-1 record (91% winning percentage).
NJIT will return to action on December 5 when the Highlanders compete at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
