Strong Second Half Propels No. 6 New Hampshire Past Visiting NJIT


DURHAM, NH--New Hampshire, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, scored three goals in the second half as the Wildcats recorded a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting NJIT in America East Conference men's soccer action Friday evening at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats, who entered Friday's match with a perfect record, improved to 11-0-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the America East. NJIT drops its third straight match, moving to 2-6-1 overall, 1-2-0 in the America East.

New Hampshire posted its seventh shutout of the season behind keeper Jassem Koleilat, who made just one save one five Highlander shots.

The Wildcats had three different goal scorers: Bridger Hansen ('61), Jacob Gould ('67) and Linus Fallberg ('75).  

New Hampshire and NJIT remained tied at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes with the Wildcats holding a 6-to-1 total shots advantage.

The first opportunity for New Hampshire came in the 31st minute on a header by Paul Mayer off a throw-in but NJIT's Samuel Reisgys stopped the Wildcat shot.

The Wildcats used their speed with another chance in the 34th minute as Victor Menudier couldn't settle the ball and his shot just trickled wide left.

NJIT recorded its first shot of the match in the 42nd minute on a long shot by sophomore Jose Escandon saved by Wildcat keeper Jassem Koleilat.

A pair of chances for the Wildcats came in the 50th minute first by Yannick Bright who received the pass in the middle of the box, hitting the top of the crossbar.  Rory O'Driscoll followed up with the second shot, just sailing wide right.

In the 52nd minute, Tomas Jorge's blast hit off the right post and Rene White, who entered the match ranked No. 6 in the nation in total goals, collected the rebound but his shot was blocked. 


NJIT's Reisgys kept the sixth-ranked team in the nation off the board with an impressive save in the 54th minute after a shot by Jonathan Knebel.

New Hampshire broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute on a goal by Bridger Hansen, his second of the season, assisted by Yannick Bright for a 1-0 lead.  The initial strike from Bright was saved by a diving Reisgys but Hansen rebounded the ball and sent home the Wildcats first tally of the evening.

The Wildcats scored an insurance goal in the 67th minute on a goal by Jacob Gould, his third of the season assisted by Paul Mayer and Sam Henneberg, increasing New Hampshire's lead to 2-0.

New Hampshire went ahead 3-0 in the 75th minute off a free kick by Linus Fallberg.

NJIT's Jorge and White led the Highlanders with two shots each while Escandon recorded the Highlanders lone shot on goal.

NJIT will have another stretch of three home matches in the month of October, welcoming Loyola (MD) on October 5, Vermont on October 9 and Stony Brook on October 13.
