Where was your first date?
Our first unofficial date was at an Alpha Phi Delta party in December of 1996. Our first real date was dinner at Chili's in Iselin, NJ.

What was your favorite place to eat on campus or in Newark?
Pedro: Sal's pizza. It isn't there anymore, but Sal's was on Warren Street where the Village Market is now. They had $1 slices of pizza.

Kate: The Pub

What was your favorite non-athletics activity?
Pedro: When I wasn't playing volleyball, doing homework, or studying I liked to play Madden,NBA Live and NHL on my PlayStation 1.

Kate: I was fortunate to be involved in many different clubs and organizations on campus. Those activities were my favorite, especially with Student Senate and the Newman Club. Fr. John Dennehy introduced Pedro and I to volunteering at St. John's Soup Kitchen on Mulberry Street. Many of our friends joined us there to make sandwiches and help distribute them. The Soup Kitchen is still open for breakfast and lunch everyday, and Fr. John is still there on Friday mornings.

If you can recall, why did you choose to attend NJIT?
Pedro: I visited LIU- Southampton, Rutgers-Newark and NJIT in the summer of 1996. There was just something about NJIT that I liked over the other schools. I wanted a smaller school and the feel that I got from being on campus just felt like home. Being from Wisconsin I really didn't know much about NJIT but Dave DeNure (Men's Volleyball Coach) and others that I met on my visit just made me feel like this was the place for me.

Kate: NJIT offered the best education for the tuition in the area.

What is your best memory about NJIT?
Pedro: In 1998 we beat Penn State 3-1 at home. After the match was over, a lot of students ran onto the court and celebrated with us. It was a great feeling.

Kate: Too many to choose from!  So many wonderful memories from swimming and soccer with my teammates, Student Senate retreats and events, Newman Club events, working with great people in the athletic department, in Eberhardt Hall and with the Miniversity team. All of the formals and parties were always so much fun too!

If you could give advice to a current NJIT player, what would it be?
Pedro: Learn time management. To me that is the biggest thing an athlete at NJIT must be good at.

Kate: Try to enjoy every minute! Getting involved in clubs outside of the athletic department will enrich your college experience in a myriad of ways.
