NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by visiting East Carolina in the first-ever meeting between the two programs on Sunday at the Naimoli Tennis Facility.
NJIT is still looking for its first win after three matches, while ECU improved to 6-1 on the season with the win.
"That was a tough loss to a very good team," said Head Coach
Ira Miller. "We came out strong in doubles, serving for the match in both first and second doubles."
The Pirates came back to win 7-5 at first doubles and clinched the doubles point after also winning 6-1 at third doubles.
ECU then won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the shutout victory.
"We had strong performances from
Abdullah Fouad,
Tin Dizdarevic,
Josh Smithm and
Aidar Aidossov, who started in singles for the first time," added Miller. "Hopefully next weekend we will be healthier and have our full lineup."
NJIT will look to get into the win column next Saturday when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at 12pm back at the Naimoli Tennis Center.
