NEWARK, N.J. --- Despite a second straight multi-goal game from senior
Ryan Kaden, the NJIT men's lacrosse team was unable to snap its current losing streak, falling 12-5 to the Siena Saints Saturday afternoon on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
Kaden led the Highlanders (1-5) with a pair of goals to record his fourth game of the season with at least two scores and the sixth of his career. Kaden was joined into the scoring column by teammates
Collin Fogerty,
Colton Johnson, and
Eric Sherman, who tallied one goal apiece.
After combining for the highest-scoring game in Highlander history last season (20-18 at Siena, Apr. 13, 2019), NJIT and Siena (2-2) played a much lower-scoring affair but it was just as close early on. The Saints scored the first goal of the game at the 12:08 mark of the first but were quickly matched by Sherman's fourth score of the year (10:22). Siena tacked on two more goals before Fogerty got on the board with his fifth of the season and first since the Monmouth game on Feb. 8. A final Saints goal with under five minutes to go put the Highlanders behind 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
The second period was played to a 2-2 tie as Siena extended their lead with the first two goals (6-2) and NJIT bringing the deficit back to two (6-4) behind successful shots from Kaden (7:33) and Johnson (5:51).
Siena eventually pulled away in the second half, holding NJIT scoreless in the third quarter and building a 6-1 advantage over the final 30 minutes.
