Stetson Spoils Senior Night; Highlanders Honor Three Seniors in Pregame Ceremony

VIDEO: NJIT Highlights | Post Game Show w/ Coach Lane

NEWARK, NJ--Stetson's Day'Neisha Banks led all scorers as the Hatters defeated NJIT, 68-49, Monday evening in ASUN Conference women's basketball action inside the Wellness and Events Center.

In pregame ceremonies, NJIT honored its three graduating seniors -- Danielle Tunstall, Milena Bajic and Tracey Brereton.

Banks, who ranks in the top five in scoring in the ASUN, finished with a game-best 21 points, six rebounds and four assists while Tonysha Curry combined for a double-double, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win at NJIT.  Tippy Robertson added nine points and Megan Vincent led all players with 10 rebounds as the Hatters outrebounded the Highlanders 44-to-27.

NJIT was paced by junior guard Ellyn Stoll, who came off the bench to score 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range.

Freshman guard Kenna Squier chipped in 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Stetson took an 8-2 lead and paced the first 10 minutes of action with a 13-6 advantage.  NJIT's Kenna Squier scored all six points for the Highlanders.

NJIT outscored the Hatters 16-13 in the second period, cutting the deficit to four late in the period after a short 6-3 run by the Highlanders capped by three straight free throws.

The Highlanders finished the stanza shooting 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

At the half, Day'Neshia Banks led all scorers with 10 points while NJIT's Dani Evans paced the Highlanders with eight points followed by six from Kenna Squier, who scored all six in the first 10 minutes.

NJIT slimmed the Stetson lead to single digits, seven, 38-31, midway through the third period on a 7-2 spurt, capped by five straight points from Ellyn Stoll just under the five-minute media.  The Hatters scored eight consecutive times to close out the period and extend its lead to 47-32.

The Highlanders battled in the final period, cutting the Stetson deficit to as many as 15, 49-34, on a bucket by Kennedy Cash.  Stetson would take a 20-plus advantage with six minute left to play and never looked back, cruising to a 68-49 victory.

NJIT will conclude its regular season on February 29 at Kennesaw State at 3:30pm and North Alabama on March 2 at 6pm (CT).
