NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by visiting Morgan State on Saturday at the Naimoli Tennis Facility.
Saturday's match was the first dual event of the season for the Highlanders, while the Bears took the court for the second time and remained undefeated.
"It was good to see our young team fight so hard against a tough team," said Head Coach
Ira Miller. "We gave ourselves a chance to win. The next time the ball will bounce our way."
Morgan State set the tone by winning two of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the afternoon. NJIT's veteran first doubles duo
Abdullah Fouad and
George Svensson won their match 6-3, but the Bears earned the victories at 6-3 and 6-2 at second and third doubles, respectively, to go ahead 1-0.
In singles play, the Highlanders got wins from
Tin Dizdarevic at second singles (7-6, 6-3) and
Amine El Kholti at fourth singles (7-6, 3-6, 6-2). El Kohlti, who made his NJIT debut last weekend is now 3-0 in singles play this season.
The Highlanders will look to earn their first win of the season on Sunday when they host Binghamton at 1pm at the Naimoli Tennis Facility.
