WALTHAM, MA--The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams went 3-3 at the Eric Solle Invitational hosted by Brandeis Saturday afternoon paced by Marina Arrese with 17 wins for the women and Robert Hondor registering 13 wins on the men's side.
The NJIT men (14-15) picked up wins against Stevens (15-12), MIT (14-13) and Brown (15-12) while the NJIT women (17-13) recorded wins over Stevens (18-9), MIT (15-12) and Boston College (14-13).
Arrese, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, combined for an impressive record on the epee strip, registering a 17-1 mark for a 94 percent winning percentage. For the season, Arrese is 42-9.
Classmate Dominika Pawlowska, who placed 12th at the 2019 Junior World Cup in November, posted a 15-3 mark in epee competition.
Freshman Dorottya Berczy led the sabre squad with a 14-4 record, combining for a 48-9 overall record on the season. Classmate Paloma Almodovar who hails from Madrid, Spain, registered a 15-3 overall record in foil competition.
Hondor paced the NJIT men in epee competition, recording a 13-4 record. Freshman Kevin Katayama combined for 12 wins on the foil strip.
The two squads, which recently received votes in the College Fencing 360 Coaches Polls, will return to action on February 8 (women) at the FDU Invitational and February 9 (men) at the MACFA B Round-Robin at Stevens.
