JACKSONVILLE, FL--Four players reached double-figures for North Florida led by Jazz Bond with a game-best 16 points, leading the Ospreys to a 71-48 victory Saturday afternoon in ASUN women's basketball action at UNF Arena.
North Florida, winners of two in a row and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 record, imporves to 9-7 on the season and 2-1 in league action while the Highlanders move to 3-12 overall and 0-2 in the ASUN.
In addition to Bond's 16 points, Rhetta Moore netted 13 points followed by 10 points apiece from Adrienne Jackson and Janesha Green. Jackson combined for a double-double, leading the Ospreys on the boards with 16 and out-rebounding the Highlanders, 49-29. Green notched a double-double of her own, dishing out a game-best 11 assists.
NJIT's Milena Bajic led the Highlanders in the scoring column with 11 points, shooting 3-for-7 and six rebounds followed by Kenna Squier's 10 points, finished 4-for-9 from the field. Danielle Tunstall added eight points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
North Florida outscored NJIT in the first 10 minutes, 18-9, capping the final four minutes on an 11-3 run.
NJIT's Dani Evans sparked a Highlander 6-2 run on a three-pointer at the 7:28 mark, pulling within seven of the Ospreys, 26-18. Neither team scored over the next three minutes and the Ospreys used a 9-2 run in the final 2:13, heading into the locker room with a 34-20 lead.
North Florida's Rhetta Moore led all scorers after the first 20 minutes off the bench with eight points followed by Emma Broermann with seven. Squier was NJIT's high-scorer in the first half with seven points on 3-of-5 from the field.Â
The Ospreys scored 12 straight to open the third period, taking its biggest lead of the game, 46-20, just under the five-minute media. Broermann led North Florida with seven points in the stretch. Bajic ended the scoring draught for the Highlanders, sinking one-of-two from the free throw line and a left-handed running layup at the 3:45 mark, beginning an 10-2 run for the Highlanders, capped by a jumper in the paint by Danielle Tunstall for a 48-30 score.
North Florida held a one-point scoring advantage in the fourth quarter, 19-18, which saw the Highlanders cut the lead down to 19, 52-33, after a three-pointer by Maria Fux to open the scoring.
NJIT will return to action on Monday evening, visiting Jacksonville at Swisher Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7pm on ESPN+. Â
