NEWARK, NJ—NJIT will return home and host a mid-week non-conference match on Wednesday at 7pm, hosting Drexel at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

NJIT (2-0-1) remains undefeated through the first three matches of the season for the fourth consecutive year.

All-Time Series
NJIT will look for its first win against visiting Drexel.  The Dragons hold a 2-0-1 all-time record against the Highlanders.  Last season, the Dragons Mathias Ebbesen scored a pair of second half goals, erasing an early deficit, holding off visiting NJIT, for a 2-1 win.

Last Time Out
After a scoreless 90 minutes of action, redshirt junior Rene White put away the game-winner in the 96th minute to give visiting NJIT its first-ever win over VCU in non-conference men's soccer action at Sports Backers Stadium.

The 6-foot forward from Bloomfield scored the game-winner at the 95:58 mark, after receiving a cross from the left side of the field from teammate Thomas Radon and heading home the winner for a 1-0 overtime victory.

ASUN Conference Players of the Week
After a strong start to the 2019 campaign for the NJIT men's soccer team, redshirt junior Rene White and freshman goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys have been selected ASUN Conference Player and Defensive Players of the Week.

White, a Preseason ASUN All-Conference selection picks up his first ASUN Player of the Week honors this season (second of his career) while Reisgys shares ASUN Defensive Player of the Week with Lipscomb's Noah Gulden.

White put away the game-winner in the 96th minute to give visiting NJIT it's first-ever win over VCU.

The 6-foot forward, has netted four goals through three matches this season and stands at 21 career goals.  His four goals and nine points top the ASUN.

Reisgys, the freshman Highlander keeper, stopped five Rams shots Sunday, one-shy of his career-best six saves against Fordham on September 2 while recording his first collegiate shutout.

The Rams earned a penalty in the 46th minute of action when Martin Ngoh drew a foul inside the box but it was NJIT's freshman keeper who denied the shot to keep the match scoreless.

The 6-foot-3 keeper from Rimbach, Germany, sits in second in the ASUN in total saves (16), save percentage (.889) and third in goals against average (0.62).

United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA D1 Atlantic Region
Following an undefeated start to the 2019 season, the NJIT men's soccer team climbed up four sports in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll released on Tuesday.

NJIT, starting at 2-0-1, jumped up four spots, which saw a shift from the rankings a week earlier.

Having been ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region debut poll, NJIT went 1-0-1 last week, playing to a 2-2 double overtime draw in the home opener on Labor Day against Fordham and picked up the programs first-ever win over VCU, 1-0, in overtime, at defending regular season Atlantic 10 champions.

NJIT opened the 2019 campaign recording a 7-0 shutout at Sacred Heart.  The seven goals scored are the most scored by a Highlander team in the Division I era since the 2013 season when NJIT scored six goals against Howard on November 10.  The program mark stands at nine, accomplished in 2006.

ASUN Rankings
NJIT's seven goals scored and seven assists in the win over Sacred Heart last week are both ASUN match highs this season.

With a 2-0-1 record, NJIT is one of three undefeated ASUN squads.

NJIT has two players ranked in the top two in goals – Rene White, who leads the league with four goals and Thomas Radon, ranked tied for third with a pair of goals.  White also paces the league in points with nine.

Radon ranks third in points with five while senior Andrew Nino ranks tied for first in assists (2) and sits tied for fourth in points with four.

Reisgys ranks second in the ASUN in three categories: saves (16), save percentage (.889) goals-against average (0.62).

2019 NJIT Outlook
After finishing with a 6-11-0 overall mark last season, fourth-year head coach Fernando Barboto will feature 11 newcomers as the Highlanders open the brand new state-of-the-art facility, Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Rene White, named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team, returns after a 2018 season which saw him lead the team in goals (11) and points (24). His totals in both statistical categories ranked him third in the ASUN for the season and helped him earn an ASUN All-Conference Second Team selection.

Scouting the Dragons
Drexel enters Wednesday's match in search of its first win of the 2019 campaign.

The Dragons opened the season at Binghamton and hosted a pair of matches against Rutgers and Northeastern.

All three losses for the Dragons have been by one-goal.  It marked the third consecutive 2-1 loss for Drexel, marking the first time since Oct. 10-20, 2015 that Drexel lost three straight games despite scoring at least one goal in every contest.

Drexel conceded a pair of second half goals to Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. A Kwesi Allen penalty kick goal in the 76th minute woke up the Dragons' offense, but was not enough as Northeastern held on for the 2-1 victory.

Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Team
Sophomore forward Chris Donovan was selected to the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Team.

A season ago as a rookie, Donovan finished third on the team with nine points behind three goals and three assists. Following the campaign, he was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team and the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Rookie Team.

Last season, Drexel finished with a 9-5-3, 2-5-1 CAA record.

Up Next
NJIT will play the next three matches on the road – at Radford (September 14), at Fairleigh Dickinson (September 17) and at Stetson (September 21) to open ASUN Conference action.
