NEWARK, N.J. --- The NJIT men's lacrosse team opened its final homestand of the 2019 season, falling to the No. 18/19 Georgetown Hoyas 23-7 Saturday afternoon at Frederick Douglass Field.
The game also served as Senior Day for NJIT (2-12), who honored their eight graduating seniors during a pregame ceremony. The student-athletes celebrated by the program were
Ryan Darrow,
Kevin Falteisek,
Aaron Forster,
Brett Goldstein,
Cole Robillard,
Jacob Sieber,
Tyler Stevenson, and
Alex Stiers.
Darrow opened up the game's scoring less than a minute into the contest, connecting on an unassisted goal with 14:24 remaining on the clock.
Grant Toller and Max Milson also scored in the first quarter to help the Highlanders stay in striking distance after 15 minutes, 5-3.
NJIT also posted close periods in the second half (5-2 in the third quarter, 3-1 in the fourth) but could not combat a 10-1 second quarter by Georgetown (10-4).
Wilson led NJIT with his first-ever two- goal performance while Forster, Darrow,
John Tachon,
Grant Toller, and
Collin Fogerty added a goal apiece.
Alexzander Hunt and
Riley Guma split time in goal, with Hunt swapping away a game-high five shots and
Riley Guma leading all Highlanders with three ground balls.
The Highlanders will conclude the 2019 campaign at home on Friday, April 26 against Army West Point. First faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
