CLEVELAND, OH—Senior
Greg Puccio capped his collegiate career Friday afternoon, placing 19
th at the 2019 NCAA Fencing Championships in the sabre competition co-hosted by Cleveland State and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission at the Wolstein Center.
Puccio dropped a close 5-4 decision to Beni Rabinowitz, the top junior men's sabre fencer in USA Region 6, 2015 and 2016 from North Carolina. Rabinowtiz represented Hungary in Junior World Cups and U23 circuits First at Junior Hungarian Team Championships.
The Highlander senior was edged, 5-4, by Marcel Dolegiewicz from Penn State, and Penn's Xiteng Steven Lin.
Puccio, a two-time National Championship qualifier (first season: 2016), combined for a 65-27 overall record during his senior campaign. On his journey to 2019 NCAA National Championships, Puccio swept JHU, Haverford, Brandies, Brown and Vassar.
In 2016, Puccio captured the 2016 MACFA Champion Individual Champion and earned a second-place finish in 2018-19 at the championships.
This season, at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championship, Puccio placed sixth.
