LAKELAND, Fla. --- NJIT and Florida Southern completed yesterday's women's tennis match after it was delayed due to inclement weather.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the scheduling intermission, the Highlander were defeated by the Mocs, 4-3.
Joleta Budiman and
Holly Matson won their pairing at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, while
Mayar Eltony and
Amanda Helminsky won their No. 3 match by the same score to put NJIT (12-3) ahead before the stoppage.
Florida Southern began the restarted match by winning at No. 1 singles and tying the score at 1-1. Rafaello Sampaio put the Highlanders ahead again by taking her match at No. 6 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 but FSC evened the score by winning the fifth singles match.
Adara Omar would earn a three-set victory at No. 3 but only after FSC captured wins at the fourth and second flights to take the match.
"Today was a very good chance to rest my top three players before we play FGCU and watch some of the players who haven't been participating recently. I was happy that we still managed to win the doubles point outdoors. A lot of credit goes to Shamika for how she managed to come back and win a tough match under pressure."
The Highlanders will play its final six regular season matches against ASUN competition, beginning with a road match at FGCU on Saturday, March 23 at 5 p.m.
