CHARLESTON, WV—The NJIT men's volleyball team registered its first EIVA Conference win with a 3-0 sweep at Charleston (WV) Friday evening.
NJIT (5-12, 1-7 EIVA) won in straight sets – 25-20, 25-18, 25-18 paced by freshman
Jens Feldthus who shared match-high honors with nine kills.
The visitors hit an impressive .381 in the first frame (11k, 3e, 21e) and followed up with a .300 percentage in set two and .259 in the third frame (12k, 5e, 27a).
A pair of Highlanders –
Enrique de Diego Garcia and
Alvaro Gimeno each notched six kills apiece while middle
Luca Berger added five kills on seven attempts with just one error for a .571 hitting percentage.
Gimeno paced the match with seven digs and three service aces, as the Highlanders held a 7-2 advantage in the serving category.
Freshman setter
Roque Nido combined for 25 assists, leading the match for the visitors.
In front of the net,
Piotr Namiotko combined for eight block assists followed by De Diego Garcia (6), Gimeno (5) and Berger (5).
NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 6pm when the two teams return to action.
