WEST POINT, NY—Bryant defeated NJIT, 5-2, in non-conference men's tennis action on the campus of Army West Point Sunday afternoon.
Bryant (8-6) won its second straight match of the season while the Highlanders drop its third straight, falling to 2-6 on the season.
"Bryant played exceptionally well today and has a strong team," head coach Ira Miller commented. "Credit to Abdullah (Fouad) for bringing his A game. Zac (Castagna) absolutely had one of his best matches of the year, holding off two match points to pull out the super-breaker by an 11-9 score in front of a big crowd."
NJIT picked up a pair of wins in singles action.
Sophomore Abdullah Fouad was a straight set winner at third singles, topping Alex Schon, 6-2, 6-3.
Senior co-captain Zac Castagna went the distance at the fourth spot, earning a 6-4 win in the first set. Bryant's Guido Argintini answered with a 6-4 victory of his own in the second frame but Castagna recorded an 11-9 win to earn the victory.
NJIT will return to action at home on March 1, welcoming Binghamton at 2pm.
