NEWARK, N.J. – Junior guard and NJIT Co-Captain Shyquan Gibbs has been named to the 2018-19 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today.

Gibbs, a first-team honoree, currently has a 3.79 GPA and is majoring in Business.

The Hillside, N.J., native and graduate of St. Anthony's High School has previously been honored as an ASUN All-Academic Team selection and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore in 2017-18.

Gibbs has started and played all 28 games for NJIT in 2018-19, averaging 8.3 ppg, a team-best .788 free throw percentage and 2.0 assists-to-turnover ratio, which ranks fifth in the ASUN.

The junior has not missed a start since making his debut in the NJIT Starting Five on Jan. 14, 2017, a stretch of 71 consecutive games.

The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

• Gibbs tied his career high and led all players with 7 assists in the 70-67 win at Drexel 11/28.
• Has started 71 consecutive games since his first as a freshman against UNF on Jan. 14, 2017.
• Ranks fifth in the ASUN in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.0) after placing seventh last year (2.0).
• Former valedictorian of St. Anthony (NJ) HS was elected to the 2018 ASUN All-Academic Team.  His father, Shelton, is a member of the Saint Peter's (NJ) University Athletic Hall of Fame and still ranks fourth on the Peacocks' all-time career scoring list.
