FLORENCE, AL - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated in five sets in its 2019 road finale by host North Alabama in ASUN Conference action on Saturday.
NJIT won the first set 25-21, before the Lions answered with a 25-20 second-set win to tie the match 1-1.
The Highlanders took a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 victory in the third set, but UNA once again answered, this time with a 25-15 fourth set win.
The Lions then took the match-clinching fifth set 15-12 to earn the win and take the season series from the Highlanders.
Leading the way for NJIT was
Madi Busler, who tallied a season-high 18 kills.
Adriana Goetz-Morales and
Courtney Branch were also impressive recording 13 and 11 kills, respectively, for the Highlanders.
Liz Benson handled the setting duties for the Highlanders and dished out a match-best and season-high 49 assists.
The Highlanders wrap up their 2019 season next weekend with a pair of matches in Newark. NJIT will host Florida Gulf Coast on Friday evening at 6pm, before ending their season with the annual Senior Day match on Sunday at 3pm against Stetson.
