Millersville 5, NJIT 2

NEWARK, NJ– The NJIT men's hockey team wanted to bounce back after a tough, but hard fought defeat to Scranton the night before, unfortunately it was not to be. The Millersville
Marauders defeated the Highlanders 5-2 at the RWJ Barnabas Health House. Millersville sweeps the season series at 2-0 and NJIT's CSCHC era record against them is 3-9. NJIT's record in the CSCHC is 2-9 and their overall record is 3-13.

Just as he did Friday night against Scranton, Michael Caufield opened the scoring on a great individual effort to get the Highlanders an early lead. The goal extended his point streak to 7 games; the assists went to Joseph Cudia and James Lyle. James Lyle also extended his point streak as well, with his going to 9 games. The Marauders would tie the game with just under
three minutes remaining in the 1 st and 1-1 would be the score after twenty minutes. Millersville would take control of the game in the 2 nd period despite taking a myriad of penalties.

Unfortunately, NJIT was not able to take advantage of their opportunities with a man up. The Marauders would be the ones to take advantage of Highlanders power play woes with a
shorthanded goal on the breakaway at 5:23 of the period to make it 2-1. Millersville would grab a 2-goal advantage with a goal just past the midway point of the period and they would take that 3-1 lead into the 2 nd intermission.

NJIT would start the 3 rd period with a 5-on-3 manpower advantage and would finally score on the power play when Caufield would get his 2 nd goal of the evening. Matthew Sendecki and
Dalton Smith would get the assists on Caufield's 16 th goal of the season. But, the Marauders would answer right back to get their 2-goal lead back with just under two minutes after the
Highlanders goal. Millersville would continue to make their way to the penalty box in bunches in the 3 rd period, but NJIT just could not benefit from the man advantage. The Marauders would ice the game with a late power play goal of their own with 45 seconds left in the game to give them a 5-2 win. Matthew Altomare made 33 saves in his 2 nd consecutive start.
