Men's Tennis Heads to Navy this Weekend

NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team will travel south to Annapolis, MD, this weekend for a three-day competition hosted by the United States Naval Academy.

In addition to the Highlanders and host Midshipmen, Mt. St. Mary's, Drexel, Morgan St., George Washington, and Chestnut Hill are all slated to compete Friday through Sunday.

"We're very excited to be heading south to Navy for our second competition this fall," said Head Coach Ira Miller. "The boys have been practicing hard and are looking to make their mark in singles and doubles."

The Navy Invitational is the Highlanders' second competition this fall as the squad competed at The Star Invitational, which was hosted by Binghamton in late September. Senior captain George Svensson highlighted the event for NJIT, winning all four of his singles matches to earn the championship of his flight. 

Friday's tennis is scheduled to begin at 12pm with two rounds of doubles, followed by one round of singles. Saturday and Sunday's play with both begin at 9am with one round of doubles each day, followed by two rounds of singles on Saturday and one round of singles on Sunday.

Following this weekend at Navy, several Highlanders will return to action at the ITA Regional Championships, which will be hosted by Penn in Philadelphia from Thursday, October 17 - Tuesday, October 22.
