(NEWARK, N.J.) – Senior Abdul Lewis crossed 1,000 career points and sophomore Zach Cooks netted up 19 points in NJIT's win over Kennesaw State, 72-52, in ASUN Conference action at the Wellness and Events Center on Saturday.

Kennesaw State (3-13, 0-1 ASUN) took charge in the first half, taking a 30-23 lead into the break, before the Highlanders (13-3) came roaring back in the second half, outscoring the Owls, 49-22.

Lewis eclipsed 1,000 career points with the opening basket of the second half to spark the Highlanders. He finished with 15 points, bringing his career total to 1,011 (NJIT, 768; South Alabama, 232).

NJIT opened the second half on a 28-6 run in the opening eight minutes, a lead they would not surrender.

Cooks scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half while Senior guard Diandre Wilson tallied 15 points to fuel the victory.

The win improves NJIT's home record to 6-1 at the Wellness and Events Center on the season and pulls them to 3-3 after trailing at the half.

Next up for NJIT, the Highlanders hit the road to take on North Alabama (3-13; 0-1) on January 12 in their second ASUN Conference game of the season.
