FAIRFIELD, Conn. --- The NJIT men's swimming & diving team took part in its final dual meet before the CCSA Championships, defeating the Monmouth University Hawks 151-137 on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Sacred Heart University.
Freshman
Joshua Franco and sophomore
Mattheau Bonner led the way for NJIT as the twoÂ
Highlanders to win multiple events at the meet. Franco was victorious in three freestyle events - the 50 meter (22.27), 100 meter (48.09) and 200 meter (1:48.42) - while Bonner secured wins in the 100 meter (52.65) and 200 meter (1:57.39) butterfly.
In addition, freshman
Justin Andersen won the 1000 meter freestyle by posting a time of 10:18.71 and junior
Cole Becker finished first in the men's 1 meter dive ahead of senior teammate
Avery Bechtel.
"This was our first meet in over six weeks and I was very pleased with how the team performed. Â It was a very competitive meet and it was good to get the men up and racing again," head coach
Ron Farina said of the Highlanders' performance.
NJIT will have three weeks off to prepare for CCSAs, which will take place February 20-23 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.Â
