NJIT Earns Its Eighth Road Win in North Florida

Zach Cooks Buries Game-Winning Three Pointer; Abdul Lewis Grabs Double-Double

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – The NJIT Highlanders (15-5, 3-2 ASUN) defeated the University of North Florida Ospreys (9-12, 3-3 ASUN) at UNF Arena on Monday, 76-72.

Senior Abdul Lewis led the way with a monster double-double, featuring 24 points and 18 rebounds.

The forward has now recorded 39 rebounds in his last two games combined.

Sophomore Zach Cooks finished with 18 points and the game-winning three pointer with 17 seconds remaining.

Senior Diandre Wilson added 17 points as NJIT earned its eighth road win of the season, improving to 8-3 away from home on the year.

The game was neck-and-neck throughout, featuring 13 ties and 11 lead changes.

In the first half, NJIT outshot UNF from three-point range (4-11) and consistency on the free throw line (9-11) gave them the slight edge over the Ospreys.

Lewis was a force in the paint, snagging 10 rebounds and nine points in the opening 20 minutes.

Wilson and Cooks both had eight points in the first half as the Highlanders took a one-point advantage into halftime, 31-30.

Both sides came to play from the sound of the opening whistle in the second half, with NJIT shooting 55% and UNF at 73% in the opening eight minutes.

Lewis secured his second consecutive double-double less than one minute into the half.

North Florida's ability to shoot from three-point range was on display in the second half, but was equaled by NJIT's 40% shooting from beyond the arc.

The Ospreys tied the game at 70 with 41 seconds remaining in the game, giving NJIT the chance to answer.

The Highlanders milked the clock and waited for the right shot, which was taken by Cooks and converted from beyond the arc with 17 seconds left.

Following a missed three pointer by UNF and one free throw made by Wilson, a late foul put the Ospreys on the line with three to shoot.

After making the first two, North Florida intentionally missed the third free throw, but it was rebounded by Cooks with 3 seconds remaining.

The sophomore guard knocked down both free throws and the Highlanders clinched a vital conference road win.

NJIT finished the game burying 8-9 field goals and 3-4 three pointers in a near flawless finish.

NJIT will complete their two-game road trip on Thursday, January 21, against Stetson at 7 p.m. (TV: ESPN+)

Following Thursday's game, NJIT returns home to the Wellness and Events Center in Newark, N.J., on Sunday, January 27, where they will host North Alabama at 4 p.m.
